Meet Shahin Hossain
With over a decade of experience as a researcher, educator, and program designer, I examine how generative AI and algorithmic systems are reshaping learning, writing, and equity across K–16 and higher education. As a Ph.D. candidate in Language, Literacy, and Culture at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, my mixed-methods dissertation investigates how college students rely on large language models (LLMs) in academic writing and explores ethical, data-driven pathways for AI-supported instruction. My work has been recognized with the AERA IPRG Poster Presentation Award and the TALLER Creativity & Originality in Educational Research Award, and my peer-reviewed publications appear in outlets including IJETHE, Early Childhood Education Journal, and Bilingual Education and Bilingualism.
Beyond my doctoral research, I cofounded and direct the Artificial Intelligence Education & Research Collective (AIERC), leading a team of doctoral researchers in designing AI-powered curricula, professional learning initiatives, and policy advocacy. I have co-organized national AI in Education conferences, delivered invited talks at Teachers College, Columbia University and presented papers at the AERA, and created faculty development programs such as the AIERC Tenure-Track Readiness Initiative. Grounded in culturally responsive pedagogy and systems thinking, my scholarship and practice aim to help institutions integrate AI responsibly while strengthening equity, teaching, and leadership for the future of education.
